These Vegan Yogurt Flatbreads are soft, fluffy, and easy to make using simple ingredients like self-raising flour and plain vegan yogurt. Perfect for quick meals or as a side to your favorite dips and salads, these flatbreads cook quickly in a skillet, offering a delicious and dairy-free alternative to traditional breads.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 400 g (3 + ⅓ cups) self-raising flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 350 g (1 ½ cups) plain vegan yogurt (Alpro no sugars soya recommended)

Instructions

  1. Mix Ingredients: Combine the self-raising flour and salt in a bowl. Add the plain vegan yogurt and stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  2. Knead Dough: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 2 to 5 minutes until it becomes smooth. The dough should be soft and slightly sticky but not wet. Adjust with a little more flour or yogurt if needed to reach the right consistency.
  3. Rest Dough (Optional): You can either proceed to roll out the dough immediately or place it in an oiled bowl, cover it, and let it rest for up to 30 minutes to improve texture.
  4. Divide Dough: Weigh and divide the dough into 8 equal pieces, then roll each piece into a ball.
  5. Roll Out Flatbreads: Lightly dust your work surface with flour. Using a rolling pin, roll each dough ball into a circle approximately 15 cm (6 inches) in diameter. Do not stack the rolled flatbreads to prevent sticking.
  6. Cook Flatbreads: Heat a frying pan or skillet over medium-high heat until hot. Place one flatbread in the pan. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes until bubbles form on the surface, then flip and cook for another minute until browned in spots.
  7. Keep Warm: Transfer the cooked flatbread to a dish lined with a clean tea towel to keep warm. Repeat the cooking process with the remaining flatbreads.

Notes

  • Use a weighing scale for consistent dough portions to ensure even cooking.
  • The dough can be rested up to 30 minutes to improve softness, but it’s not mandatory.
  • Do not stack rolled flatbreads before cooking to prevent them from sticking together.
  • If the dough feels too sticky, add flour gradually; if too dry, add a teaspoon of yogurt at a time.
  • For extra flavor, you can add herbs or spices to the dough before cooking.
