This Vegan Cream Cheese recipe is a quick and easy dairy-free alternative made from extra-firm tofu and refined coconut oil. It delivers a smooth, creamy texture with a subtle tang, perfect for spreading on bagels, toast, or using in dips and recipes. Ready in just 5 minutes, this plant-based cream cheese is flavorful, versatile, and ideal for vegans and those avoiding dairy.

Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • 1 14 oz package extra-firm tofu (water-packed)
  • 1/2 cup refined coconut oil (melted)
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon nutritional yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Drain and Press Tofu: Drain the tofu thoroughly and press it to remove as much liquid as possible. Using a tofu press is ideal but you can also place the tofu between plates with a weight on top. This ensures a firmer texture and creamier end result.
  2. Combine Ingredients: Break up the pressed tofu and add it to a food processor. Add the melted refined coconut oil, apple cider vinegar, nutritional yeast, and salt.
  3. Blend Until Smooth: Blend the mixture on high for about 1 minute, pause to scrape down the sides of the bowl, then blend again for another 1-2 minutes. Continue until the mixture is completely smooth and creamy.
  4. Add Flavorings (Optional): If desired, add any additional flavorings such as herbs, garlic, or spices. Pulse a few times to incorporate these, or stir them in gently with a spoon or spatula.

Notes

  • Refined coconut oil is recommended for a neutral flavor, but you can substitute with other neutral oils if preferred.
  • Pressing the tofu well is key to achieving a cream cheese-like consistency.
  • Store vegan cream cheese in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
  • Optional flavor additions include chives, dill, garlic powder, smoked paprika, or lemon zest.
  • Use as a spread on bagels, crackers, or as a base for dips and sauces.
