Ingredients

Red Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup green bell pepper, ribs and seeds removed, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 1/2 (24-ounce) jars spaghetti sauce

Pasta

  • 16 ounces spaghetti
  • 1 tablespoon salt (for boiling pasta water)

Alfredo Sauce

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese

Topping

  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish
  • Additional dried Italian seasoning, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare Red Sauce: Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C) and spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. Heat olive oil in a 12-inch skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and green bell pepper and sauté until translucent. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Add ground beef, cooking and crumbling it until no pink remains. Drain excess grease. Season with salt, black pepper, Italian seasoning, and add spaghetti sauce. Stir well and set aside.
  2. Cook Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, add spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain pasta well.
  3. Make Alfredo Sauce: In a separate pan, melt butter over low heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until aromatic. Sprinkle flour over the garlic and cook, stirring constantly, for 1 minute to form a roux. Remove pan from heat, whisk in heavy cream until smooth. Return to heat and stir in Parmesan cheese gently until melted and sauce is creamy.
  4. Combine Alfredo Sauce and Pasta: Add the drained spaghetti into the Alfredo sauce, tossing to evenly coat the noodles. Spread the coated pasta evenly into the prepared baking dish as the bottom layer.
  5. Assemble and Bake: Spoon the prepared red meat sauce evenly over the layer of Alfredo-coated pasta without mixing. Sprinkle mozzarella cheese evenly on top. Bake uncovered in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the casserole is bubbly.
  6. Finish and Serve: Remove from oven and let cool for 10 minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley and a light sprinkle of dried Italian seasoning before serving.

Notes

  • Use ground beef with 80/20 fat ratio for best flavor and moisture.
  • You can substitute spaghetti with other pasta shapes like penne or rotini if preferred.
  • For extra flavor, add red pepper flakes to the red sauce.
  • Make sure to drain pasta well before combining with Alfredo sauce to avoid watery casserole.
  • Leftovers store well refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheat nicely in the oven or microwave.
