This Steakhouse Blue Cheese Dressing is a creamy, tangy, and flavorful dressing perfect for salads, dipping veggies, or serving with buffalo wings. Made with simple ingredients like buttermilk, mayonnaise, sour cream, and blue cheese crumbles, it delivers a rich, bold blue cheese taste that intensifies as it rests, making it a classic and irresistible addition to your dishes.

Ingredients

Dressing Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup buttermilk (see note on how to make your own)
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup blue cheese crumbles (1-2 ounces total depending on your preference)
  • 1/2 shallot, finely minced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (plus more if needed)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, mayonnaise, sour cream, blue cheese crumbles, finely minced shallot, lemon juice, salt, Worcestershire sauce, and black pepper until well blended.
  2. Adjust Seasoning: Taste the dressing and adjust the salt, pepper, or blue cheese amount according to your preference. Keep in mind that the dressing will thicken and the blue cheese flavor will intensify as it rests.
  3. Serve or Chill: Serve immediately with salad greens, as a dip for vegetables, or alongside buffalo wings. For best flavor, refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the dressing to thicken and the flavors to meld.

Notes

  • To make your own buttermilk, add 1/2 tablespoon of lemon juice or white vinegar to 1/2 cup of milk and let it sit for 5-10 minutes before using.
  • The dressing thickens as it rests in the refrigerator and flavors become more robust.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
  • If the dressing is too thick after chilling, thin it with a little additional buttermilk or milk.
  • For a chunkier texture, gently fold in extra blue cheese crumbles before serving.
