These Sloppy Joe Cups are a fun and delicious twist on the classic sloppy joe sandwich. Ready in just 30 minutes and easy to make, they offer all the comforting flavors of sloppy joes in a convenient handheld format.

Ingredients

Ground Beef Mixture

  • 1 pound lean ground beef (93/7)
  • 1 can (15 oz) sloppy joe sauce

Dough and Toppings

  • 1 tube (8 oz) refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 2 slices yellow American cheese, cut into quartered squares

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Muffin Pan: Preheat your oven to 375℉ (190℃). Lightly spray 8 cups of a 12-cup muffin pan with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Cook Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook and crumble the ground beef until no longer pink. Drain excess fat and grease from the pan.
  3. Simmer with Sauce: Add the sloppy joe sauce to the beef in the skillet and stir to coat evenly. Let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  4. Prepare Dough: On a lightly floured surface, unroll the crescent rolls and pinch the seams to form one large square. Use a rolling pin to smooth and slightly enlarge the dough square.
  5. Cut and Shape Dough Cups: Cut the dough into 8 equal squares. Gently press each square into the prepared muffin cups, forming open-faced cups.
  6. Fill Cups: Spoon the sloppy joe mixture evenly into each dough cup, filling them generously but without overflowing.
  7. Add Cheese: Top each filled cup with a quartered square of yellow American cheese.
  8. Bake: Bake the cups for 12-15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown, cooked through, and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Cool and Serve: Allow the cups to cool for a few minutes before carefully removing them from the muffin pan. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • You can substitute the sloppy joe sauce with homemade sauce for a fresher taste.
  • Use a spatula to gently lift the cups out of the muffin pan without breaking them.
  • For added flavor, consider mixing diced onions or bell peppers into the beef while cooking.
  • Use low-fat cheese or reduce cheese quantity to lower fat content.
  • Ensure the dough is evenly rolled to prevent thin spots that might burn during baking.
