This simple guacamole recipe is a quick and fresh appetizer featuring ripe avocados, red onion, tomato, jalapeño, cilantro, and lime juice, seasoned with kosher salt. Perfect as a dip or accompaniment for Mexican dishes, it's easy to make and bursting with vibrant flavors.

Ingredients

Guacamole Ingredients

  • 3 ripe avocados
  • ⅓ cup red onion, diced
  • 1 medium tomato, seeded and diced
  • 1 small jalapeño pepper, diced
  • ⅓ cup cilantro, finely chopped, plus more for serving
  • 2 limes, juiced
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt, or more to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the avocados: Cut the ripe avocados in half, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a medium bowl.
  2. Mash the avocado: Using a fork or potato masher, gently mash the avocados until you achieve your desired consistency, whether chunky or smooth.
  3. Add fresh ingredients: Stir in the diced red onion, diced tomato, and diced jalapeño pepper to the mashed avocado.
  4. Season and add herbs: Mix in the finely chopped cilantro, lime juice, and kosher salt. Stir everything together until combined.
  5. Taste and adjust: Taste the guacamole and add more salt or lime juice if needed to suit your flavor preference.
  6. Serve: Garnish with additional cilantro if desired and serve immediately with tortilla chips or as a topping.

Notes

  • For a milder guacamole, remove the seeds from the jalapeño before dicing.
  • Make sure the avocados are ripe for the best flavor and texture.
  • To prevent browning, cover with plastic wrap directly on the surface or add extra lime juice.
  • This guacamole is best served fresh but can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 day.
  • Feel free to customize by adding garlic, cumin, or diced red bell pepper.
