This Ridiculously Good Air Fryer Salmon recipe delivers perfectly cooked, flavorful salmon with a smoky, slightly sweet, and spicy crust. Using an air fryer ensures a crispy exterior while keeping the inside tender and juicy, making it an easy and quick meal option.

Ingredients

Salmon

  • 1 lb salmon fillet (skin-on or skinless as preferred)

Spice Rub

  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 3/4 teaspoon coarse kosher salt (or 1/2 teaspoon table salt)

Oil

  • 23 teaspoons avocado oil or olive oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Salmon: Pat the salmon fillet dry with paper towels to ensure the rub adheres well and the skin crisps up nicely during cooking.
  2. Make the Spice Rub: In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, paprika, smoked paprika, chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, cornstarch, and salt. Mix thoroughly to create an even spice blend.
  3. Apply the Rub: Lightly brush the salmon with avocado or olive oil to help the seasoning stick. Evenly sprinkle the spice rub over all sides of the salmon, pressing gently to adhere.
  4. Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 3 minutes to ensure even cooking and a crispy finish.
  5. Air Fry the Salmon: Place the salmon fillet in the air fryer basket skin-side down. Cook at 400°F for 7-9 minutes, depending on thickness, until the salmon flakes easily with a fork and has a crispy exterior.
  6. Rest and Serve: Remove the salmon from the air fryer and let it rest for a couple of minutes to allow the juices to redistribute. Serve immediately with your favorite sides.

Notes

  • Note 1: Choose skin-on salmon for extra crispiness and easier handling, but skinless also works well.
  • Adjust cooking time based on thickness; thicker fillets may need an extra minute or two.
  • Use avocado oil for a higher smoke point if your air fryer runs hot.
  • To add extra flavor, squeeze fresh lemon juice on the salmon before serving.
