Ingredients

Goat Cheese

  • 10.5 ounce log goat cheese

Marinade

  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • Zest of 1 large navel orange
  • 2 tablespoons finely sliced fresh mint
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
  • 2 cloves garlic, grated on a microplane
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Fresh cracked black pepper, to taste

Toppings

  • 1/4 cup chopped pistachios
  • 2 tablespoons honey

To Serve

  • Sliced baguette or crispy crostini

Instructions

  1. Slice Goat Cheese: Carefully slice the goat cheese log into 1/3 inch thick slices using a sharp knife. Arrange the slices evenly in a large shallow dish which will be used for marinating and serving.
  2. Make the Marinade: In a bowl, whisk together the olive oil, orange zest, finely sliced fresh mint, fresh thyme leaves, freshly grated garlic, and season with kosher salt and fresh cracked black pepper. Mix until well combined to create a fragrant marinade.
  3. Marinate: Pour the prepared olive oil marinade evenly over the arranged goat cheese slices. Cover the dish tightly with plastic wrap (Saran Wrap) and refrigerate for at least one hour, allowing the cheese to absorb the flavors; it can also be marinated overnight for stronger taste.
  4. Finish and Serve: About 30 minutes before serving, remove the marinated goat cheese from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature so the olive oil can warm slightly and enhance flavors. Just before serving, sprinkle the top with chopped pistachios and drizzle with honey. Serve alongside sliced baguette or crispy crostini for a delicious bite.
  5. Share the Love: If you enjoyed this recipe, don’t forget to leave a 5-star rating and review to share your experience and help others discover this flavorful appetizer.

Notes

  • Marinating time can be extended overnight for deeper flavor infusion.
  • Use a fresh microplane or fine grater to zest the orange and grate the garlic to maximize flavor release.
  • You can substitute pistachios with toasted walnuts or almonds for different textures.
  • Allowing the cheese to come to room temperature before serving enhances the creamy texture and flavor.
  • Serve immediately after topping with honey and nuts to maintain texture contrast.
