This Honey Mustard Salmon recipe delivers a perfectly baked salmon fillet glazed with a flavorful mix of honey, Dijon mustard, paprika, and olive oil. Ready in just 30 minutes, this dish offers a delightful balance of sweet and tangy flavors with a tender, flaky texture, making it an ideal healthy dinner option for two.

Ingredients

Salmon and Glaze

  • 1 pound skin-on salmon fillet (wild caught if possible)
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan: Line a baking sheet large enough to hold the salmon with parchment paper. Place the salmon fillet in the center and pat dry with a paper towel. Let the salmon stand at room temperature while you preheat the oven to ensure even cooking.
  2. Preheat the Oven: Position a rack in the middle of your oven and preheat to 425°F (220°C) to achieve a nicely cooked, slightly caramelized crust on the salmon.
  3. Coat the Salmon: Drizzle the olive oil and honey evenly over the salmon. Then spoon the Dijon mustard on top. Sprinkle the paprika and kosher salt all over. Using a pastry brush or your fingers, gently rub these ingredients into the salmon so it is well-coated with the honey mustard glaze and spices.
  4. Bake the Salmon: Place the baking sheet with the salmon in the preheated oven. Bake uncovered until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily at the thickest part. Cooking times depend on thickness: 8 to 12 minutes for fillets ½ to ¾ inch thick, 13 to 19 minutes for 1 to 1½-inch thick fillets, and 20 to 22 minutes for fillets up to 2 inches thick. Aim for an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C), removing the salmon about 5 degrees early to allow carryover cooking.
  5. Rest and Serve: Let the salmon rest for a few minutes after baking to allow the juices to redistribute. Slice crosswise into individual servings and enjoy immediately for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Use wild-caught salmon for the best flavor and sustainability.
  • Letting the salmon come to room temperature before baking ensures even cooking.
  • If unsure about doneness, use an instant-read thermometer to check for 145°F at the thickest part.
  • Adjust cooking time depending on the thickness of your salmon fillet.
  • Serve with a side of steamed vegetables or a fresh salad for a balanced meal.
