Ingredients

Shrimp and Seasoning

  • 1 ½ pounds large shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

Sauce

  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 3 garlic cloves (finely grated)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger (finely grated)
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil

Garnish

  • 2 scallions (thinly sliced)
  • Toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce: In a bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, finely grated garlic, fresh ginger, and sesame oil until well combined. Set aside for later use.
  2. Cook the shrimp: Pat the shrimp dry thoroughly with paper towels to ensure proper searing. Heat the neutral oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season the shrimp evenly with kosher salt and ground black pepper. Arrange the shrimp in a single layer in the hot skillet and cook for 1 to 2 minutes on each side until they turn pink and start to curl slightly. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Make the sticky sauce: Pour the prepared honey garlic sauce into the same skillet used for cooking the shrimp. Allow it to cook over medium heat for about 3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and becomes slightly reduced and sticky.
  4. Coat the shrimp: Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet and toss them gently in the sticky honey garlic sauce. Cook for an additional 1 to 2 minutes so the shrimp become glossy and fully coated with the sauce.
  5. Garnish and serve: Remove the skillet from heat. Sprinkle the sliced scallions and toasted sesame seeds over the shrimp. Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free version, substitute tamari for soy sauce.
  • Adjust the amount of honey for sweeter or less sweet sauce according to your taste.
  • Be careful not to overcook the shrimp to keep them tender and juicy.
  • Serve with steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.
  • To toast sesame seeds, simply heat them in a dry pan over medium heat until fragrant and lightly golden.
