This Homemade Rose Petal Jam is a fragrant and delicate preserve made from fresh organic rose petals, sugar, pectin, and lemon juice. Ideal for adding a floral touch to toast, desserts, or tea, this delightful jam highlights the natural aroma and beauty of rose petals with a balanced sweetness and subtle tanginess.

Ingredients

Jam Ingredients

  • 3 cups edible organic rose petals
  • 3/4 cup cane sugar (or use jam sugar and omit additional pectin)
  • 3 tablespoons powdered pectin
  • 1 lemon, juiced (about 1/4 cup bottled lemon juice)
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Prepare Rose Petals: Gently rinse the rose petals under cold water to remove any dirt or insects. Pat them dry with a clean towel and set aside.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a large saucepan, combine the rose petals, cane sugar, powdered pectin, lemon juice, and water. Stir well to mix all ingredients evenly.
  3. Cook the Jam: Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly to avoid burning. Once boiling, reduce the heat slightly and let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes until the jam thickens and reaches a gel-like consistency.
  4. Test the Jam: To check if the jam is ready, place a small amount on a cold plate and let it cool for a minute; if it wrinkles when pushed with a finger, the jam is set.
  5. Jar the Jam: Remove the saucepan from heat and carefully spoon the hot jam into sterilized jars. Seal the jars immediately and allow the jam to cool to room temperature.
  6. Store Properly: Store the jam in the refrigerator for up to three weeks or process in a hot water bath for longer shelf life.

Notes

  • Use only edible and organic rose petals to avoid pesticides and chemicals.
  • You can substitute jam sugar with regular cane sugar, but in that case, additional pectin is necessary to achieve the right consistency.
  • Ensure jars are sterilized to prevent spoilage and extend shelf life.
  • This jam pairs wonderfully with toast, scones, yogurt, and as a flavor enhancer in tea or desserts.
  • Adjust sweetness by adding more or less sugar depending on your preference and the natural sweetness of the roses.
