Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups (56g) Rice Chex cereal
  • 1 cup (60g) mini pretzels or pretzel sticks
  • 1 cup (28g) Cheerios
  • 1 cup (28g) Wheat Chex or Shreddies cereal

Seasoning Mix

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon seasoning salt
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat Air Fryer: Set your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) and allow it to preheat while you prepare the mixture.
  2. Prepare Seasoning Butter: Melt the butter in a small pan or microwave, then stir in the seasoning salt and onion powder until well combined.
  3. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the Rice Chex, mini pretzels, Cheerios, and Wheat Chex or Shreddies, mixing thoroughly.
  4. Coat Mix: Pour the seasoned melted butter over the dry ingredients, stirring gently to ensure all pieces are evenly coated.
  5. Prepare Air Fryer Basket: Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper and spread the chex mix in a single layer. You may need to cook in two batches to avoid overcrowding.
  6. Air Fry: Cook the Chex mix for 6 to 8 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through to ensure even cooking and crisping.
  7. Check Crispness: If the mix is not sizzling or crispy enough after the initial air frying, cook for an additional 2 minutes or until desired crispness is achieved.
  8. Cool and Serve: Remove from the air fryer and let the mix cool completely before serving to allow it to crisp up further.
  9. Alternative Oven Method - Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C) and line two rimmed baking sheets with parchment paper.
  10. Prepare Seasoning Butter: Melt the butter and mix in the seasoning salt and onion powder, then set aside.
  11. Mix Dry Ingredients: Combine all the dry ingredients in a large bowl, stirring well.
  12. Coat Mix: Pour the seasoned melted butter mixture over the dry ingredients and toss to evenly coat every piece.
  13. Spread on Baking Sheets: Divide the mixture evenly between the two prepared baking sheets spreading it out in a single, even layer.
  14. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, stirring or mixing the mixture a couple of times during baking to ensure even roasting.
  15. Cool and Serve: Remove from oven and allow to cool completely before serving to enhance the crunchiness.

  • You can experiment with different types of seasoning salt or add a pinch of cayenne pepper for a spicy kick.
  • For a gluten-free version, ensure all cereals and pretzels are certified gluten-free.
  • Store the cooled mix in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
