Ingredients

Crescent Roll Base

  • 1 (8-oz.) can crescent rolls

Protein

  • 1 lb. lean turkey breakfast sausage

Egg Mixture

  • 4 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup egg whites (180g) or 4 extra eggs
  • 1.25 cup milk of choice (300g)
  • 1 Tbsp ranch seasoning mix or 1 tsp each: salt, garlic powder, onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Cheese

  • 1/2 cup shredded low fat sharp cheddar cheese (56g)
  • 1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese (56g)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it's ready for baking the casserole.
  2. Prepare Crescent Roll Base: Unroll the crescent rolls and press them evenly into the bottom of a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, forming a solid crust to hold the filling.
  3. Cook Sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the lean turkey breakfast sausage until browned and fully cooked, breaking it up into crumbles as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
  4. Combine Eggs and Seasoning: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the 4 large eggs, egg whites, milk, ranch seasoning (or substitute salt, garlic powder, and onion powder), and black pepper until fully blended.
  5. Assemble Casserole: Spread the cooked sausage evenly over the crescent roll crust in the baking dish. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses over the sausage layer. Pour the egg mixture evenly over all layers.
  6. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the casserole is set in the center and the top is golden brown.
  7. Cool and Serve: Remove the casserole from the oven and allow it to cool for 5 to 10 minutes before slicing. This helps it set further, making it easier to serve.

Notes

  • You can substitute the turkey sausage with pork sausage if preferred, but adjust fat content accordingly.
  • Using low-fat cheese helps keep the calorie and fat content lower without sacrificing flavor.
  • Feel free to add vegetables like diced bell peppers or spinach for added nutrition and color.
  • If you don’t have ranch seasoning, a simple mix of salt, garlic powder, and onion powder works well.
  • Make sure not to overbake; the casserole should be set but still moist in the center.
