Ingredients

For the Turkey Patties

  • 500 grams turkey mince (regular)
  • 3 tbsp dried breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp salt (use less if preferred)
  • ¼ tsp ground black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp ground paprika (sweet Hungarian)
  • 1 heaped tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped chives
  • Olive oil spray

For the Burgers

  • 4 multigrain rolls (or white, brioche, or wholemeal/whole wheat)
  • Mixed lettuce leaves
  • 2 tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 red onion, sliced into rings
  • 4 slices burger cheese
  • Mustard and tomato sauce
  • Sliced dill pickles

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Patty Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the turkey mince, dried breadcrumbs, salt, ground black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, sweet Hungarian paprika, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and finely chopped chives. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated to form a consistent mixture.
  2. Shape the Patties: Divide the mixture evenly into four portions. Shape each portion into a round patty, about 1 to 1.5 centimeters thick, ensuring they hold together firmly.
  3. Preheat the Air Fryer: Set your air fryer to 180°C (356°F) and allow it to preheat for about 3-5 minutes to ensure even cooking.
  4. Air Fry the Patties: Lightly spray the air fryer basket with olive oil spray to prevent sticking. Place the turkey patties in the basket in a single layer, making sure they don’t overlap. Cook for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the internal temperature reaches 74°C (165°F) and the patties are golden brown and cooked through.
  5. Prepare the Burger Assemblies: While the patties cook, slice the rolls open and if desired, lightly toast them in the air fryer or oven. Layer the bottom half with mixed lettuce leaves, tomato slices, and red onion rings. Add a cooked turkey patty on top, then place a slice of burger cheese over the warm patty to slightly melt.
  6. Add Condiments and Finalize: Spread mustard and tomato sauce on the top half of the roll. Add sliced dill pickles as desired, then close the burger. Serve immediately while warm and enjoy your healthy turkey burger.

Notes

  • Ensure turkey patties reach an internal temperature of 74°C (165°F) for safe consumption.
  • You may substitute multigrain rolls with your choice of burger buns like brioche or whole wheat.
  • For extra flavor, add some fresh herbs like parsley or cilantro to the patty mixture.
  • To reduce sodium, you can reduce the amount of salt or Worcestershire sauce.
  • Olive oil spray helps prevent sticking, but you can also lightly brush the patties with olive oil if preferred.
