Ingredients

Ground Beef and Seasoning

  • 1 lb. 85/15 ground beef
  • 3 tablespoons homemade taco seasoning OR
  • ½ tablespoon chili powder
  • ½ tablespoon cumin
  • ½ tablespoon paprika
  • ½ tablespoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Additional Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Fresh cracked black pepper, to taste
  • Street taco flour tortillas
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Shredded cheese
  • Sour cream
  • Taco sauce

Instructions

  1. Heat the pan: Place a large sauté pan over medium-high heat and allow it to warm up thoroughly to ensure even cooking.
  2. Cook the ground beef: Add the ground beef to the pan along with a couple pinches of kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper. Use a spatula to crumble the beef as it cooks, stirring occasionally until the meat is browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes.
  3. Add seasoning and tomato paste: Stir in the homemade taco seasoning (or the chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper blend), along with the tomato paste and water. Mix well to incorporate all ingredients evenly.
  4. Simmer: Reduce the heat to low and allow the mixture to simmer for 2-3 minutes. Stir occasionally so the flavors meld and the sauce slightly thickens.
  5. Adjust seasoning: Taste the beef mixture and add additional kosher salt and fresh pepper if needed to suit your preferences.
  6. Assemble tacos: Warm the street taco flour tortillas. Spoon the seasoned ground beef into each tortilla, then top with shredded lettuce, shredded cheese, sour cream, and a drizzle of taco sauce as desired.
  7. Serve and enjoy: Serve the tacos immediately while the beef is warm and the tortillas soft. Enjoy your homemade ground beef tacos!

Notes

  • You can customize the toppings to your preference, adding ingredients like diced tomatoes, avocado, or jalapeños.
  • For a spicier taco, add cayenne pepper to the seasoning blend or extra hot sauce.
  • Using 85/15 ground beef provides a good balance of flavor and fat; leaner beef may result in drier tacos.
  • Taco seasoning can be made in larger batches and stored to save time on future meals.
  • To keep tortillas warm, wrap them in a clean towel or heat briefly in a dry pan before serving.
