A simple and flavorful recipe for marinated steaks grilled to perfection. The steak is marinated for several hours to enhance its flavor and tenderness, then grilled over high heat for a beautifully seared crust and juicy interior. Resting the steak before serving ensures maximum juiciness and flavor.

Ingredients

Steak

  • 1 pound of steak (ribeye, sirloin, or your preferred cut)

Marinade

  • 1/2 cup steak marinade (store-bought or homemade steak marinade)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Make marinade: Prepare your marinade by mixing together the ingredients if making a homemade version. A simple marinade can include soy sauce, olive oil, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, and seasonings.
  2. Marinate steaks: Place the steaks in a covered glass dish or a large freezer bag. Pour the marinade over the steaks and massage or toss them to ensure all sides are coated. Cover and refrigerate for 4 to 8 hours, up to 12 hours for maximum flavor.
  3. Preheat grill: Preheat your grill on high heat until it reaches about 500°F (260°C) to get a good sear.
  4. Prep steaks for grilling: Remove the steaks from the marinade and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Lightly oil either the grill grates or the steaks themselves, then season with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  5. Grill steaks: Place the steaks on the hot grill and sear them for 2-3 minutes per side to develop a crust. Check the internal temperature using a meat thermometer. If the steaks are not yet at your preferred doneness, lower the heat to medium-low or move the steaks to indirect heat to finish cooking.
  6. Rest and serve: Transfer the steaks to a cutting board or plate and let them rest for 5 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute and keeps the steak tender and juicy. Slice and enjoy your perfectly grilled marinated steak!

Notes

  • Steak cuts such as ribeye, sirloin, flank, or skirt steak work well for grilling.
  • Marinating for at least 4 hours up to 12 hours enhances flavor and tenderness.
  • Use a meat thermometer for perfect doneness: Rare (125°F), Medium Rare (135°F), Medium (145°F), Medium Well (150°F), Well Done (160°F).
  • Resting the steak after grilling is essential to keep it juicy.
  • If you don't have a grill, you can use a grill pan or cast iron skillet on the stovetop as an alternative.
