Ingredients

Shrimp

  • 1 lb jumbo shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon thyme
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Pasta and Sauce

  • 12 oz farfalle pasta
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons dry shallots
  • 2 tablespoons gluten free flour
  • 3 cups heavy cream
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • 12 oz Parmesan cheese shredded
  • ¼ cup reserved pasta water

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Shrimp: In a medium bowl, combine the shrimp with paprika, oregano, garlic powder, thyme, black pepper, and salt. Toss until the shrimp are evenly coated with the spices.
  2. Sauté the Shrimp: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned shrimp and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until pink, opaque, and cooked through. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Cook the Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the farfalle pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve ¼ cup pasta water, then drain the pasta and set aside.
  4. Make the Sauce Base: In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and dry shallots; sauté briefly until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes.
  5. Create the Cream Sauce: Sprinkle gluten free flour over the butter and vegetable mixture, stirring constantly to make a roux. Gradually whisk in the heavy cream and chicken broth, stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and cook until thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
  6. Add Cheese and Season: Stir in the shredded Parmesan cheese until melted and fully incorporated. Adjust seasoning with salt if needed.
  7. Combine Pasta and Shrimp: Add the drained farfalle pasta and cooked shrimp back into the skillet. Pour in the reserved pasta water a little at a time to loosen the sauce if necessary. Toss gently to coat everything evenly in the creamy sauce.
  8. Serve: Once everything is warmed through and well combined, remove from heat and serve immediately, garnished with extra Parmesan or fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

  • Peel and devein jumbo shrimp before seasoning for best texture and taste.
  • Reserve pasta water to help adjust sauce consistency and help it cling to the pasta.
  • Use gluten free flour to keep the dish gluten free without compromising the sauce thickness.
  • For a lighter version, substitute heavy cream with half-and-half or use a dairy-free cream alternative.
  • Adding fresh parsley or basil as garnish enhances the flavor and presentation.
  • Ensure not to overcook the shrimp to maintain a tender texture.
