A quick and flavorful Garlic Bok Choy recipe featuring tender blanched bok choy tossed in a savory garlic oyster sauce. Perfect as a healthy side dish with Asian-inspired meals.

Ingredients

Vegetables

  • 1 1/2 lb bok choy (sliced in half)
  • 8 cloves garlic (minced)

Sauces and Seasonings

  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon chicken bouillon powder
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Blanch the bok choy: Bring a pot of water to a boil over high heat and add 1 teaspoon of salt. Add the bok choy halves and blanch for 1 minute until the leaves are bright green and tender-crisp. Remove the bok choy from the water and set aside to drain.
  2. Mix the sauce: In a small bowl, combine 1 teaspoon cornstarch with 1/4 cup water until fully dissolved. Add 2 tablespoons oyster sauce, 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 tablespoon sugar, 1 teaspoon chicken bouillon powder, and 1 teaspoon sesame oil. Stir until the mixture is well combined.
  3. Cook the sauce: Heat a tablespoon of cooking oil in a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant but not browned. Pour in the prepared sauce mixture and stir continuously. Bring to a simmer and cook until the sauce thickens, about 1-2 minutes.
  4. Serve: Arrange the blanched bok choy on a serving plate and drizzle the hot garlic oyster sauce over the top. Serve immediately and enjoy this flavorful side dish.

Notes

  • Blanching the bok choy briefly helps retain its vibrant color and crisp texture.
  • Adjust the amount of sugar and soy sauce to suit your taste preferences.
  • Use low-sodium soy sauce to reduce salt content if desired.
  • For a vegetarian version, substitute oyster sauce with mushroom sauce and omit chicken bouillon powder.
  • Serve alongside rice or your favorite protein for a complete meal.
