Coquito is a traditional Puerto Rican holiday drink featuring a creamy and sweet coconut base infused with warm holiday spices and a generous splash of white rum. This rich and smooth beverage blends evaporated milk, cream of coconut, and condensed milk with egg yolks and aromatic cinnamon and nutmeg, making it a festive favorite to enjoy chilled.

Ingredients

Liquid Ingredients

  • 12 ounces Evaporated Milk
  • 15 ounces Cream Of Coconut (Coco Lopez recommended)
  • 14 ounces Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 1 cup White Rum
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg

Eggs

  • 2 Egg Yolks (use pasteurized egg yolks for safety if desired)

Garnish (Optional)

  • Cinnamon Sticks
  • Star Anise

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: Add the evaporated milk, cream of coconut, sweetened condensed milk, egg yolks, vanilla extract, white rum, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg into a blender.
  2. Blend Mixture: Blend the mixture on medium speed for about 1 minute until all ingredients are thoroughly combined and smooth.
  3. Chill the Drink: Pour the blended coquito into an airtight container and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or longer, to allow the flavors to meld together and the drink to chill properly.
  4. Serve and Garnish: Serve chilled in glasses, garnished with a cinnamon stick, a star anise, and a dusting of cinnamon powder on top for an aromatic and festive presentation.

  • Store the coquito in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
  • For safety, consider using pasteurized egg yolks to reduce risk of foodborne illness.
