The salmon fillet is coated with a rich glaze made from soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, lemon juice, and butter, then baked to perfection for a delightful meal perfect for any night of the week.

Ingredients

Salmon

  • lbs salmon fillet
  • Olive oil, for brushing
  • Salt, for seasoning
  • Black pepper, for seasoning

Glaze

  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 Tbsp lemon juice
  • ¼ cup salted butter
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Bring Salmon to Room Temperature: Remove the salmon from the refrigerator and let it sit out for about 10 to 15 minutes to reach room temperature. This step ensures the salmon cooks evenly throughout.
  2. Prepare the Baking Dish: Place the salmon fillet skin-side down in a large baking dish. Lightly brush the top of the salmon with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper to season.
  3. Make the Glaze: In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, lemon juice, salted butter, salt, and black pepper. Stir frequently as the mixture heats, allowing the sugar and butter to melt completely and form a smooth glaze. Avoid boiling. This should take about 2 to 3 minutes.
  4. Assemble and Bake: Pour the prepared glaze evenly over the salmon in the baking dish. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil to keep moisture in. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 10 to 25 minutes, depending on the thickness of your salmon. For extra caramelization, remove the foil and broil uncovered for the last 2 to 3 minutes as desired.
  5. Finish and Serve: Take the salmon out of the oven and let it rest for a couple of minutes. Transfer the salmon to a serving platter, drizzle any remaining sauce from the baking dish over the top, and garnish with chopped green onions or fresh herbs if desired. Serve the salmon over rice, noodles, or vegetables for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Letting the salmon come to room temperature before cooking helps it cook more evenly.
  • Cooking time varies depending on the thickness of the salmon; thicker fillets require closer to 25 minutes.
  • Broiling the salmon uncovered for the last few minutes adds a nice caramelized finish but watch carefully to avoid burning.
  • This glaze can also be used for grilling or pan-searing if preferred.
  • For a lower salt option, use low-sodium soy sauce and adjust salt accordingly.
