Delight in these flaky Blueberry Cream Cheese Danishes featuring a buttery puff pastry base filled with a smooth, sweetened cream cheese mixture topped with fresh blueberries, perfect for breakfast or a charming dessert.

Ingredients

Puff Pastry

  • 44 x 44 cm Puff Pastry sheet

Filling

  • ½ cup Blueberries
  • ½ cup Cream Cheese
  • 5 tbsp Powdered Sugar
  • ¼ cup Heavy Cream
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Essence

Egg Wash

  • 1 Egg (beaten with)
  • 1 tbsp Milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 356°F (180°C) to ensure it reaches the proper temperature for baking the danishes evenly.
  2. Prepare Puff Pastry: Cut the puff pastry into 11x11 cm squares. Using a knife, score a square frame about 1 cm inside each pastry square without cutting all the way through. Place these on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, then poke the inside area of the frame lightly with a fork to prevent excessive puffing. Set aside.
  3. Make Filling: In a bowl, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, and one whole egg until smooth and well blended. Stir in the heavy cream and vanilla essence until combined to create a creamy, sweet filling.
  4. Prepare Egg Wash: In a small bowl, beat one egg with 1 tablespoon of milk. This mixture will be brushed onto the pastry edges to give a golden, shiny finish after baking.
  5. Assemble Danishes: Brush the outer edge of the puff pastry squares with the prepared egg wash. Spoon approximately 2 tablespoons of the cream cheese mixture into the center of each square, then top evenly with fresh blueberries.
  6. Bake: Place the baking tray in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes or until the puff pastry is golden brown and puffed up.
  7. Cool and Serve: Allow the danishes to cool slightly on a wire rack. Just before serving, dust the tops with powdered sugar for a beautiful and sweet finish. Enjoy your Blueberry Cream Cheese Danishes fresh!

Notes

  • The puff pastry should be kept cold until just before cutting and assembling to ensure maximum puffiness when baked.
  • Fresh blueberries are preferred for a burst of flavor; frozen can be used but should be drained well to avoid sogginess.
  • Egg wash helps achieve a golden and shiny crust but can be omitted if desired for a dairy-free option.
  • These danishes are best enjoyed the day they are baked but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
