This Baked Feta Recipe with Honey and Zaatar is a delightful blend of creamy, tangy feta cheese perfectly warmed in the oven, topped with sweet honey and aromatic zaatar and oregano. Quick and easy to prepare, this dish brings together Mediterranean flavors in a simple appetizer that's perfect for sharing with crackers, bread, or pita chips.

Ingredients

Cheese

  • 8 oz feta cheese (see notes)

Seasonings and Toppings

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 1/2 tsp zaatar
  • 1 tsp oregano

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and place the feta cheese in a small cast iron skillet to prepare it for baking.
  2. Bake the feta: Drizzle the feta with olive oil evenly, then bake in the oven for 15 minutes, allowing the cheese to warm through and begin softening.
  3. Add toppings and prepare to broil: Turn on the broiler. Remove the skillet and top the feta with honey, zaatar, and oregano evenly across the surface.
  4. Broil the cheese: Broil the feta for 3-5 minutes, watching closely until the top is toasted, fragrant, and the cheese becomes gooey and melty. Optionally, sprinkle more zaatar on top after broiling.
  5. Serve: Serve the warm, gooey baked feta immediately with crackers, bread, or pita chips for dipping and enjoying.

Notes

  • Use a good quality feta cheese for best flavor and texture; a block-style feta works best instead of crumbled.
  • A small cast iron skillet is ideal to ensure even cooking and easy broiling but other oven-safe dishes can work.
  • The honey adds a sweet contrast to the salty feta while zaatar provides a fragrant Middle Eastern herb flavor.
  • Serve promptly to enjoy the cheese warm and soft.
