This Baked BBQ Chicken Breast recipe delivers juicy, tender chicken breasts coated with a smoky blend of spices and slathered in tangy BBQ sauce. Perfectly baked to a safe internal temperature, this dish is simple to prepare, making it an ideal weeknight dinner that everyone will enjoy.

Ingredients

Chicken and Marinade

  • 4 large chicken breasts (about 1.5 lbs total)
  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil (plus more to grease the pan)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground white pepper

Sauce

  • 1 cup BBQ sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 375° F. Lightly grease a casserole dish with about one tablespoon of avocado oil to prevent the chicken from sticking during baking.
  2. Season Chicken: Place the chicken breasts into a large Ziploc bag. Add one tablespoon of avocado oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, kosher salt, and white pepper to the bag. Seal and shake well to ensure each chicken breast is thoroughly coated with the oil and spice mixture.
  3. Arrange and Sauce: Transfer the seasoned chicken breasts to the greased casserole dish. Brush the tops of the breasts generously with half of the BBQ sauce.
  4. Bake and Flip: Bake the chicken for about 20 minutes. Carefully flip each chicken breast over, brush with the remaining BBQ sauce, then continue baking for another 20-30 minutes. Bake until the internal temperature reaches 165° F and the chicken is cooked through.
  5. Serve: Remove the baked chicken from the oven once fully cooked. Slice the chicken breasts and serve warm, accompanied by any remaining BBQ sauce for extra flavor.

Notes

  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure the chicken is safely cooked to 165° F internal temperature.
  • For extra smoky flavor, consider using a smoked BBQ sauce.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • If you prefer a crispier exterior, broil the chicken for the last 2 minutes of baking, watching closely to avoid burning.
