This warm and buttery single-serving apple crumble features caramelized apples beneath a crisp, cinnamon-spiced topping, baked conveniently in a toaster oven. Perfect as a solo dessert, it's delightful on its own or served with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream for a comforting finish.

Ingredients

Filling

  • 1 Jazz apple, chopped into small cubes
  • 1 tbsp raw sugar
  • 1/2 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/8 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp butter, melted

Crumble Topping

  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp raw sugar
  • 1/8 tsp cinnamon
  • 1.5 tbsp butter, melted

Garnish

  • 1 large scoop vanilla ice cream

Instructions

  1. Prep the Filling: Chop the Jazz apple into small cubes and place them into a ramekin or small baking dish. Add 1 tablespoon melted butter, 1 tablespoon raw sugar (plus 1 teaspoon extra), 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice to the apples. Mix everything well until the apples are evenly coated with the mixture.
  2. Make the Crumble: In a small bowl, combine 3 tablespoons flour, 2 tablespoons raw sugar, and 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon. Add 1.5 tablespoons melted butter and gently mix with your hands until the mixture forms small clumps resembling damp sand—moist enough to stick together but still crumbly.
  3. Layer It Up: Evenly spoon the crumble topping over the apple filling in the ramekin. It's okay if some apples are exposed; this recipe is for a lightly topped crumble.
  4. Bake It Off: Place the ramekin in a toaster oven preheated to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until the topping turns golden brown and apple juices are bubbling at the edges. For a conventional oven, bake about 35 to 40 minutes. If the crumble looks pale, continue baking a few more minutes until golden and bubbling.
  5. Serve and Enjoy: Allow the crumble to cool slightly before topping with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream or rose saffron kulfi. Serve warm for the best flavor and texture experience.

Notes

  • The crumble topping should appear damp and clumpy, like wet sand, not dry.
  • Oven baking times may vary; watch for bubbling edges and a golden-brown surface.
  • If you prefer a thicker topping, you can double the crumble ingredients.
  • Jazz or Honeycrisp apples are ideal, but any firm and sweet apple variety works well.
  • For serving, vanilla ice cream or kulfi complements the crumble beautifully.
