Delightfully moist and flavorful Apple Brownies combine the sweetness of apples and the crunch of toasted pecans in a soft, cinnamon-spiced batter. Perfect as a cozy dessert or snack, these brownies are baked to golden perfection with a tender crumb and a rich buttery taste.

Ingredients

Apple Brownies Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup salted butter, room temperature (112 g)
  • 1 cup sugar (200 g)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (133 g)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup chopped apple pieces (100 g), peeled and cored
  • 1/2 cup toasted pecan pieces (53 g)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350℉ (175℃) to prepare for baking the brownies.
  2. Toast Pecans: In a small pan over medium heat, toast the pecan pieces until they become fragrant to enhance their flavor. Remove from heat and let them cool.
  3. Prepare Apples: Peel, core, and chop the apples into small chunks about 1/2 inch in size, ensuring even distribution in the batter.
  4. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a mixing bowl, cream the room temperature butter and sugar together until the mixture is light and fluffy, then add the egg and mix again thoroughly.
  5. Add Dry Ingredients: Incorporate the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon into the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined to avoid overworking the batter.
  6. Fold in Apples and Pecans: Gently mix in the chopped apples and toasted pecan pieces. The batter will be sticky and moist due to the apples.
  7. Prepare Baking Dish: Butter an 8x8-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper. Pour and press the sticky batter evenly into the dish.
  8. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 45 minutes, checking around 35 minutes. The brownies are done when the crust is golden brown and a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
  9. Cool and Serve: Remove the brownies from the oven and let them cool in the pan for about 15 minutes before slicing into squares. Serve warm or at room temperature, optionally with ice cream for extra indulgence.

Notes

  • Ensure the butter is at room temperature for easier creaming and better texture.
  • The baking time may vary depending on your oven; check for doneness early to avoid overbaking.
  • Using tart apples like Granny Smith can add a nice balance to the sweetness.
  • These brownies keep well in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • Optional: Add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to enhance flavor depth.
  • For a nut-free version, omit pecans or substitute with seeds like sunflower or pumpkin seeds.
